The Many Shapes of a Pearl

By admin | January 31, 2010

There are 8 basic shapes when it comes to Pearls: round, semi-round, button, drop, pear, oval, baroque, and circled. Perfectly round pearls are the most sought after. However natural pearls are nearly never perfectly round and so it’s possibly to get a great pearl at a great price. Semi-rounds are often disquised in unique settings when used in jewelry. Button pearls are treated the same way. Drop and pear shaped pearls are usually used as a center pearl in pearl necklaces. Baroque and circled pearls are very uniquely shaped and are usually used in unique pieces of art, like sculptures.
