Medial knee osteoarthritis

By admin | November 28, 2009

Osteoarthritis on the medial knee is a painful arthritis. The medial side of the knee is on the inside of the knee which is a common source of osteoarthritis. The two main risks factors of medial knee osteoarthritis are as follows: large bodyweight (i.e. obesity) and legs that tend to be more bowed (this leads to more compression on the medial compartment). To relieve symptoms, medical treatment (drug therapy) is recommended along with physiotherapy to strengthen the muscles. Sometime braces and wedging of the shoes can be used to help relieve straining of legs that are bowed. Furthermore, loosing weight would also be a great help. For its advanced cases, surgery might be a need.
